Nike Designs  Sneakers For Nurses And Doctors Grueling Long Shifts

Nike has made a name for itself creating shoes for playing basketball, tennis, and running. But, let’s be honest, how many people
who wear Air Jordans or Lebrons actually play basketball versus watching it on television? Now, Nike is releasing a new pair of shoes
created for everyday heroes that make a bigger difference in all of our lives than Michael Jordan or Lebron James, medical professionals — nurses, doctors, and home healthcare workers.Nike designed the shoe after researching medical professionals at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon to create the perfect one for their needs. Nurses may need more support from their shoes than NBA players. The average NBA player runs 2.5 miler per game. A nurse on average  walks four to five miles and sits for less than an hour during a standard 12-hour shift.

Nike Special Sneakers For Doctors And Nurses

Workers at Oregon Health & Science University’s Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon, provided insights to help Nike create a better option than rubber clogs. These new Nikes are designed to work for long stretches of standing while supporting natural motion for all the rushing around health care providers may do.

The sneakers are laceless, making them easy to slip on. They have an elastic strap for comfort and flexibility, a rubber out sole for easy
cleaning and a flexible drop-in midsole. Plus, there’s a coated toe box to protect against any type of spill and a traction pattern on the sole for increased safety. The shoes are designed with a secure heel fit as well.

Seven designs are available. Six of them were designed by patients through the Doernbecher Freestyle Program, which benefits innovative health care advances at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. All profits from the sale of the patient-designed shoes will be donated back to the hospital.  The patient’s designs are certainly eye-catching — sure to brighten up a tough shift.

Nike’s Innovative  Design For Medical Workers

The Nike Air Zoom Pulse is a shoe for everyday heroes: nurses, doctors, home health providers and others who work tirelessly to support patients

.

Nike Range Of Shoes Keeps Doctors And Nurses Comfortable During Extended Shifts

The Nike Air Zoom Pulse is a shoe Nike developers coated the lace-less exterior with material that makes them easy to wipe down and clean. Since the designers also found that nurses “walk approximately four to five miles and sit for less than an hour during the course of a 12-hour shift”, they improved the mid-sole and heel so that the shoes could be ultra comfortable and supportive while still being secure enough for a busy environment.

“The design confronts a range of medical worker-specific challenges,” says the company. “How can a shoe be both comfortable for
long stretches of standing and versatile enough to support the hurried movements required in emergency situations? The answer comes through the Pulse’s full-rubber out-sole, a flexible drop-in mid sole with Zoom Air heel unit and a heel fit so secure, it feels like a soft, snug hug.Made for everyday heroes: nurses, doctors,  home health providers and others who work tirelessly to support patients.

Zoom Pulse Is A Shoe For Every Day

Product testing and medical-worker insights — those on-the-ground athletes — took place at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital located in Portland, Oregon.
During the sessions, the designers of the Air Zoom Pulse learned the rigors of these health-care workers’ day-to-day efforts. Nurses, for example, walk approximately four to five miles and sit for less than an hour during the course of a 12-hour shift. The work is physically and mentally demanding. The design for the Air Zoom Pulse tackles those challenges with simplicity in mind. The shoe is easy to get on and off, and equally simple to clean. The fit, cushioning and traction systems work together to secure the foot in all hospital conditions.

The design confronts a range of medical-worker-specific challenges. How can a shoe be both comfortable for long stretches of standing and versatile enough to support the hurried movements required in emergency situations? The answer comes through the Pulse’s full-rubber out sole, a flexible drop-in mid sole with Zoom Air heel unit and a heel fit so secure, it feels like a soft, snug hug.

Main Design Elements of the Air Zoom Pulse

* The lace less upper features a protective PU-coated synthetic vamp for easy cleaning
* An elastic strap keeps the heel securely contained, and allows for flexible and easy one-handed entry
* The durable, full-rubber out sole incorporates a water-  dispersion traction pattern
* The subtle Asterisk logo references Nike’s company mission and the belief that “If you have a body, you are an athlete.”

One can think of the Air Zoom Pulse as almost a traditional clog made athletic — all the arch and posture support of
that industry favorite is augmented in the Pulse, with a smooth capacity for natural motion.

And, of course, the shoe is also fabricated for the unforeseen peculiarities of life in the hospital. The coated toe box protects against any type of spill. Smooth surfaces present a unique challenge when designing for spills as well, and the shoe’s traction pattern solves for this by removing closed cells.

  3. I LOVE this idea! My niece is a student nurse specialising in Learning Disabilities and I think these would be an amazing gift for her – I especially love the bright patterns – they would be perfect for a children’s doctor or nurse.

I’ve worked in hospitals myself and at the end of the day, you’re feet can really be killing! The only problem I would mention before anyone buys them for a gift for someone, is that some healthcare providers and hospitals have very specific dress codes – although if i were an employer and thought there was a way to help my employees be more comfortable and happy in their work -= it would be a no brainer – thank you so much for sharing.

I’ve had a look on their website and although they said they will be released in December, there is still no sign of them so unfortunately they probably wont be released in time for Christmas delivery.

  6. I thought this may have been a joke at first but now that I read the article it males complete sense.

Doctors and nurses are on their feet all day and should be wearing suitable footwear.

I work from home and get aches so I can understand the need for this; I may pick up a pair myself.

Added with the fact that some money goes to charity makes these a must-have. 😀

Thanks for a great post that has made my day,
    Michael.
