NBA Has Created A Impressive Club Of Female Officeholders

We all cannot wait for the day when it won’t be major news when a woman is hired to any sports team.  The only news she be regarding is her skill set and what she brings to an organization . That should be the main focus and not her gender. The aim is that just being a woman in sports should not be any different from being a man.

The NBA has been making moves in this context, hiring more women and allowing their basketball knowledge to be shared for the better of the growth of the game of basketball .

The NBA has formed a small club of female officeholders that is growing day after day. This includes people such as Lindsey Harding, Sue Bird and a few others.

The newest addition to this still exclusive and elusive club is Kelly Krauskopf, who has taken up the position as front office staff member for the Indiana Pacers. This shift has come from her already well-established basketball career at the WNBA’s Indiana Fever.

New Girl On The Old Boy’s Team

“I feel like I’m a girl who got picked to play on the boys’ team,” Krauskopf said following her appointment as the Pacer’s new Assistant GM.

She has worked hard to help build the Fever franchise over at the WNBA, and now is her chance to do the same on the men’s side with the NBA team Indiana Pacers

There have been a few cases of misconduct around women, and speculation that having more female staff would not be good for the players. One controversy led to Mark Cuban being fined $10 million in the Mavericks’ sexual harassment controversy. However, the only way to curb down these cases is to normalize women being a part of the NBA.

The Spurs made the first move when they hired Becky Hammon as the assistant coach, and she even became the first woman to interview for the post of Head Coach. Now there are some teams that have followed suit such as the Nuggets and the Clippers, but in all sincerity hope that  it goes so much  further beyond that.

Hiring NBA’s First Female Assistant General Manager Was Long Overdue

The NBA is taking another step forward when it comes to equality among the sexes, as the Indiana Pacers are making a landmark hire.

Krauskopf played collegiate basketball  at Texas A&M.

Still thinking  the Fever should’ve won all three championships games.Kelly Krauskopf knows all things and every inch of  the game  basketball. From the court to the boardroom.  Having played at Texas A&M and raised in South Texas .Accepting a position  with the university’s athletics department after she graduated college. After putting in some time in corporate America, she was tapped to be the first director of basketball for the WNBA in 1996. The previous past 17 years or so, she’s has been the president and general manager of the Fever, Indiana Pacer’s WNBA team. She guided  the team to the WNBA Finals three times, won once, and is as competitive as anyone in the Pacers’ organization.” She

The Pacers have already had Krauskopf in the organization working with the team’s E-sports NBA 2K team, but adding her as an assistant GM is a groundbreaking move that shows just how much talent NBA teams are adding from the WNBA.

Krauskopf built a WNBA championship franchise from the Fever’s expansion season in 2003.

Image result for Pacers Name Kelly Krauskopf

Krauskopf helped the Fever build a title contender, winning the 2012 WNBA championship and reaching the finals in 2009 and ’15. “I have admired the work that Kevin and his staff have put forth so far and I am honored to be a part of an elite and historical franchise” Krauskopf  said in a acceptance speech .

The architect of one of the WNBA’s most successful franchises, Kelly is a true pioneer in our sport”, said Pacers owner Herb Simon.

Following In A Line Of Trail Blazers

She isn’t the very first women’s assist GM in all of sports, as Major League Baseball already has had two women assistant general managers, with Jean Afterman still employed as an executive for the New York Yankees.

In the WNBA, Krauskopf was the longest-tenured senior team executive in the league, dating beyond the Fever to her time as the league’s first Director of Basketball Operations in 1996.

Women are a becoming a bigger part of the NBA. Kristi Toliver was recently hired as an assistant in Washington and Chasity Melvin is an assistant with Charlotte’s G League affiliate in Greensboro, North Carolina. Becky Hammon is now a veteran of the coaching staff in San Antonio, and Natalie Sago and Ashley Moyer-Gleich made their debuts this season as referees.

With building the Fever from scratch to WNBA Champions , made her a natural fit for the position.Pacers president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard said of  Krauskopf’s decades-long involvement with basketball.

She started when the Indiana  Fever was awarded an WNBA franchise.Through parent club owners the Pacers Sports & Entertainment in 1999.

Nancy Leonard has been credited with helping keep the Pacers in Indianapolis through a telethon to sell season tickets. And has handled things like the organizations finances and other front office duties. The hiring of Krauskopf, now makes her the first woman to ever hold that title. The Fever won the 2013 WNBA championship and have made three finals appearances since 2009.

Mrs Krauskopf will work with the Pacers’ basketball operations staff, including Assistant GM Peter Dinwiddie ,President of basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard and General Manager Chad Buchanan .Kevin Pritchard  proclaims”I’ve worked with Kelly over the past two decades, so I know her tremendous basketball mind, strong work ethic and proven leadership skills will continue to be of great benefit to our organization”.

With the Fever, Krauskopf  constructed a team that made the playoffs 13 times, reached the WNBA Finals three times and won the 2012 title – the only professional basketball title won by a team in the state of  Indiana since the 1970s.

Krauskopf also was responsible for overseeing the Pacers’ new e-sports team. After leaving that spot, she moved to a position focused on building the Pacers eSports franchise Pacers Gaming to assist with that, which has lead her now to an even bigger role with the Pacers franchise.

Krauskopf has an amazing track record and deserved reputation for building winners.

“My past experience has shown me that building winning teams and elite level culture is not based on gender – it is based on people and processes”Krauskopf added.

Star Athlete And Huge Basketbal Fan Olivia McGinnis-Taylor Was Only 12 Loses Battle With Brain Aneurysm

Who Was Olivia  McGinnis-Taylor

Olivia was born on December 22, 2000 to Carl and Karla Taylor at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Olivia was called home on July 5, 2013 while surrounded by family. Olivia had just completed sixth grade at Rockbrook Elementary in May.

Olivia was a very cheerful girl from the time she was able to express herself. It was not uncommon for Olivia to wave and say, ‘Hi’ to nearly everyone in the grocery store . She remained known as someone who was very liberal with hugs and her big beautiful smile. Olivia always had a huge heart and time for younger kids. She treated them with such patience and love and always made time for them.

She has always had a love for animals and knew an amazing amount of facts about animals and wildlife. One of her favorite books was an encyclopedia with facts where she could learn even more.

She loved to express herself through singing and dance. She participated in the National American Miss Pageant in 2011 and had a wonderful experience. Art was another way she loved to express herself.

Olivia always loved visits to her Grandpa and Grandma’s farm near Mount Ayr. She was outside from sunup to sundown playing with animals, exploring and playing with Jasmine her sister. She also was very intrigued by the Amish families who lived near her grandparents and at one point Olivia was convinced she wanted to be Amish. From the time Olivia was a few years old, she went with her grandparents, mom and sister to the Ring Gold County Fair. Those were some of Olivia’s favorite times. She cherished the many friends she made at the fair. She was most proud of her watermelon eating contest wins — five years in a row, not to mention the bubble blowing and paper airplane flying contests.

Olivia spent many summer vacations in Michigan enjoying quality time with family and playing at the beach and parks.

In her spare time, some of Olivia’s favorite things were communicating with friends on social media, watching TV, swimming and hanging out with Jasmine.

Olivia McGinnis-Taylor, 12, was 'star athlete'

Girls Basketball Players At Omaha Westside Play For Olivia McGinnis-Taylor

She loved animals, softball and most of all, basketball. The 2018 would have been Olivia’s senior year on Omaha Westside’s basketball team. But five years ago on July 4th, 2013, a brain aneurysm took her life. She was 12 years old.

By honoring Olivia’s memory her best friend Liz and Jasmine  dedicated their remaining girls basketball playing days in memory of their team mate.

Liz wears a necklace that has Olivia’s ashes in it.Jasmine has a tattoo with her sister’s name.

The Westside High School also keeps a picture of Olivia in the locker room so all the players see right before they take the floor at a home game as inspiration.

The family of Olivia’s has started the Love Olivia Foundation in her name. The goal is to spread the love that she had for everyone by providing athletic shoes for those players  in need of  foot gear  .Events are planned annually to help raise donations through the foundation .

She is here in the spirit might , although Olivia is not here in the flesh. They always play for her. She’ll always be with them.

Young Basketball Passing Was Unexpected

She liked to share Instagram photos with her friends, especially her basketball and softball teammates. As like other teenagers  do.

A pitcher for the Ralston Riots, a select, fast-pitch, traveling softball team. Olivia also played for the Amateur Athletic Union’s Retro Basketball team, another select, traveling team .

Her aunt, Kim Foster said  her niece was a star athlete.

The  unexpected death of Olivia spread among her Instagram friends and team mates . Her basketball team chose to play in a weekend tourney ,the softball team she played for pulled out of a scheduled tournament in Des Moines  Iowa.

Her Aunt said Olivia passed way at Immanuel Medical Center. An autopsy showed that she died of a brain aneurysm.

Olivia finished sixth grade at Rockbrook Elementary School  this past spring . She attended kindergarten through fourth grade at Prairie Lane Elementary.

Foster described her niece as outgoing.

“She was very cheerful and had an amazing smile,” Foster said. “She just meets friends wherever she goes.”

Olivia also loved animals, especially her cat, Ava, Foster said.

Olivia Will Forever Be An  All Star Athelete

Sports quickly became a very important part of Olivia’s life a few years ago when she embarked on basketball and softball. She not only excelled in both sports but met many amazing friends. She was selected for the Boys & Girls Club All-Star team as a fifth and sixth grader, MVP of Columbus Fire & Ice tournament where she hit a three-run home run.

Girls Basketball Future is Bright

Just because female do not always dunk , people think we can’t play. In reality basketball is just  not about only  dunking the ball . If you take away guys being able to dunk, then that really exposes how they can play. You really have to think the game. If you actually know the game, then you would respect both sides.

A lot of  Women basketball players are really good. Asia Durr, Katie Lou Samuelson who plays at  UConn, Arike, those type of girls going to the league, they are bringing more talent, and I feel like women’s basketball will be more fun to watch and it’ll be more enjoyable. I feel like they’re sleep, but as it keeps evolving, players grow up and players keep getting drafted, I feel like it’ll be a more watched sport and people will start to take it more seriously . Most women basketball payers are not only playing for themselves, but there’s reason behind every struggle and every story. Also playing for the next generation  of female players.

Just to be able to play and for people to be interested in it. They do it for fun. Some  have  played in the backyard, with boys all  their lives. So to be able to play against other girls and showcase the talent. They just want to go out there and have fun.

Youth Basketball Training Programs-G2 Hoops LLC, Providing Exposure For Athletes And Coaches Through The Game Of Basketball

Raising The  Visibility Of Talented High School Student Athletes To College Coaches And Scouts

About The G2 Hoops LLC Owner

Gary, Indiana, native Gregory Jones II is the owner of G2 Hoops LLC, a sports marketing and event management company. G2 Hoops specializes in grassroots basketball, providing a platform for young athletes to refine  their  athletic and professional skills.

I started with just wanting to help others. Giving my testimony and life experiences hoping it would motivate and influence people in the basketball community. Now my G2 Hoops brand has evolved beyond basketball into other industries. My purpose is to prepare young athletes for the next level in the journey of life.

Greg Jones Photo 1

That could be high school, college or professional. How do you build your network for success? Two of the biggest things for me are word of mouth and social media. All though we have technology at the tips of our fingers word of mouth is the best form of networking.

I believe quality over quantity is law. What two moments in your life changed you the most? Having a serious injury that eventually led me to stop playing basketball competitively is the biggest moment in my life. It shaped me into the person that I am today. I don’t believe I would be doing the things I am in 2018 if that moment did not happen. Making my mind up to start my company.

Sometimes one has  to take risks in life. What are three important pieces of advice you would give your future daughter or son

1. Believe in yourself

2. Never give up.

3. Keep God first.

What piece of advice would you give your teenage self? Life isn’t going to go the way you think. If you stick with it during the hard times the outcome will be better than you could imagine. What advice would you give to young men about dealing with their emotions? It’s OK to seek help. Mental health is extremely important. Don’t be afraid to speak to someone.

Providing A Formula To Thrive In Life And Paving A Road To Success.

How do you utilize your knowledge to benefit and inspire others? I utilize my knowledge and experience to help parents, coaches, trainers and young athletes make informative decisions. If there was a speech to give to young women and  men, what would you title your speech and why? I would title my speech “Surviving vs. Thriving. There is a big difference between the two. Most young women and men  are trying to survive in America. I want young black people to have more opportunities. What two quotes do you use to motivate yourself and others? “There is nothing permanent except change.” –Heraclitus “Everything has beauty but not everyone can see it.” –Confucius Name two iconic humans who have inspired you or currently inspire you. Why? Muhammad Ali was an amazing man  spoke his mind during a time where African Americans needed a voice. He sacrificed his own life to stand up for the voiceless. Martin Luther King Jr.’s I Have A Dream speechis most iconic speech ever.

The  G2 Hoops LLC Brand Beyond Basketball

Stan Lee born Stanley Martin Lieber  December 28, 1922 – November 12, 2018) was a writer of comic books, editor, and publisher who was active from the 1940s to the 2010s. He rose through the ranks of a family-run business to become Marvel Comics‘ primary creative leader for two decades, leading its expansion from a small division of a publishing house to a multimedia corporation giant  that dominated the comics industry.

In collaboration with others at Marvel co-writer/artists  Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby Lee co-created many iconic fictional characters, including superheroes  Black PantherX-MenSpider-Man, Venom  Iron ManThor, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four,DaredevilDoctor StrangeScarlet Witch and Ant-Man. In doing so, he pioneered a more naturalistic approach to writing superhero comics in the 1960s, and in the 1970s he challenged the restrictions of the Comics Code Authority, indirectly leading to changes in its policies. In the 1980s he pursued development of Marvel properties in other media, with mixed results. Following his retirement from Marvel in the 1990s, he remained a public figurehead for the company, and frequently made several appearances in films based on Marvel characters, on which he received an honorary “executive producer” credit. Meanwhile, he continued independent creative ventures into his 90s, until his death in 2018.

Lee was inducted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame  1995 for the comic book industry

Spider-Man is a fictional superhero created by writer-editor Stan Lee and writer-artist Steve Ditko. He first appeared in the anthology comic book Amazing Fantasy #15 (August 1962) in the Silver Age of Comic Books. He appears in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, as well as in a number of movies, television shows, and video game adaptations set in the Marvel Universe. In the stories, Spider-Man is the alias of Peter Parker, an orphan raised by his Uncle Ben and  Aunt May in New York City after his parents Mary and Richard Parker were killed in a plane crash. Lee and Ditko had the character deal with the struggles of adolescence and financial issues, and accompanied him with many supporting characters, such as J. Jonah Jameson, Flash Thompson, Harry Osborn, romantic interests Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson, and foes such as Venom,Doctor Octopus and The Green Goblin . His origin story has him acquiring spider-related abilities after a bite from a radioactive spider; these include clinging to surfaces, shooting spider-webs from wrist-mounted devices like the actual characteristics of a spider .Additionally through his amazing  “spider-sense” he can  detect  danger that is lurking.

Stan was and always will be an icon when it comes to creating super heroes that we all can relate  to in our lives . His fans loved him and his desire to interact with them. He loved his fans and treated them with the same respect and love they gave him.

He worked tirelessly his whole life creating great characters for the world to enjoy. He wanted to inspire our imagination and for us to all use it to make the world a better place. His legacy will live on forever.

The hardly ever bashful Lee similar to  Alfred Hitchcock who preceded  him in films,  appeared in cameos in countless Marvel movies, shown crashing a wedding ,avoiding falling concrete, watering his lawn, playing a security guard or delivering the mail .

Ever since his game-winning shot that brought championship glory to North Carolina, Michael Jordan has been at the forefront of basketball consciousness. He took the court in 1985 wearing the original Air Jordan I, simultaneously breaking league rules and his opponents’ will while capturing the imagination of fans worldwide.

Running Shoe Drop-Every Year 1,200 Are killed Over Sneakers

There Are Individuals Who  Stop At Nothing, That Might Resort To  Violence While Attempt Getting Newest Trending  Sneakers

Riots And Long Lines The Culture Of Kicks

Things got a little real hostile  for the Air Jordan 1 “Origin Story” in London England . Buyers waiting in line  for the Spider-Man-themed sneaker  got involved in  an physical confrontation outside of the store . The retailer was forced to cancel the release altogether .

There’s a dark side to sneaker culture in an attempt to get the newest kicks, some people will stop at nothing, including using  violence. However there are victims’ families that stepped up to the plate as advocates for a paradigm shift in sneaker culture .Also some shoe companies are taking measures to ensure more accountability and safety in hyped-up sneaker releases are in place to safeguard to protect buyers from incidents.

Watch this video on The Scene.

A similar situation recently occurred at a Nike store in China during a lineup for the “Rookie of the Year” Air Jordan 1. Hopefully, this doesn’t start to become a frequent occurrence. If you’re going to stand in line for a big sneaker drop, do it peacefully please everyone.

Sneakers collection  are a insanely popular craze among among adult  and teen sneaker heads alike  who sell collect, buy, trade kicks.  Passion like this is what creates snaked lines around the corners for the new limited releases and hysteria .  When there is a serious demand and not enough pairs for everyone, there are sometimes riots, fights, and long lines for sneakers.  This is all part of the sneaker culture and this is all for ONE pair of sneakers! Imagine if one retro coming out every month. There would be riots everywhere. Sneaker lines can be dangers: customers get impatient and start getting rowdy.

No More Hating : Why Standing In Line For Jordans Makes So Much Sense

Getting the latest released Air Jordans may mean nothing to you, but  to a lot of women and men  who slept outside for the opportunity to win the golden ticket to purchase them, it means the world.

There is a running narrative that lines up next to these sneakerheads, who shell out hundreds of bucks to be the first to own a dead stock pair or, in sneakerhead parlance, a pair of new, fresh-out-the-box, never-touched-the-floor sneakers about how insane the entire tradition has become . Some sections of the population believe that they should be doing something else with their time, and their money, than buying  ridiculously expensive kicks.

But here in this article are three  reasons why we have to rid ourselves of this idea that people who stand in lines for hours to snag the  limited edition sneakers are making impulsive  purchases influenced by materialism. And let’s lose this snobby idea  that sneakerheads are somehow engaged in a materialistic rituals .

1. The Sneaker Resale Market Is Extremely Rich.

Sneaker fashion is an opportunity to live in style. Purchasing kicks at retail price is an opportunity to save some money , for the business-minded sneakerhead, an opportunity to make money. Point blank period

According to recent estimates, the sneaker resale market is valued at approximately $1 billion. Yep, that’s billion with a “b.” Again, for those limited-edition releases, each store gets anywhere from a dozen to 100 pairs of shoes. So entrepreneurial sneakerheads alot the times with their buddies   purchase them with the intent to sell them online soon thereafter for much more than the original selling price. Nike is not against  this sneaker flipping going  because it  it helps build buzz and adds to the brand’s overall street reputation

It’s a complex, dynamic business that gives enterprising sneakerheads an unbelievable of a return on their original payment. The more dedicated resellers have developed connections with wholesalers. The markups on them can be as much as 100 percent, or more from the initial purchase.

2. The Most Inexpensive Choice Is Retail

There is no way around it .A pair of Jordans are an  expensive item . Insanely expensive for the average working person much less a teenager  that typically covet them.

Primarily purpose that many people stand outside for hours to buy limited edition models is that only on a select few  of them are sold in stores at the market price.

Getting  up at 3 a.m. to get to a Foot Locker makes not only sense  for sneakerheads but also  cents and dollars. Especially because they’d rather pay $250 for the Air Jordan Doernbecher IV on day 1 than buy them for more than $1,300 online from someone that might resell them for more than three times their original price tag.

Kicks Are A Work Of Art.

A hobby that is often associated with rich people in order to make the case for why we should stop snubbing our noses at sneakerheads. But I will: art.
When Puff Daddy was eying Picasso’s Venus artwork at Art Basel like a vulture closing in on its prey, no one cared because rich people blow big cash on big things. It’s a given.
Puffy can salivate over those pieces because, well, those items have a value and seriousness attached to them that sneakers don’t have.
But the truth of the matter is, sneakers are art. They’ve moved past their mere purpose and are considered by many to be a legitimate canvas that designers and artists use to express themselves. Their value appreciates with age, just like art. Many of them embody a certain kind of archaic, bold, artistic expression that people love. Some wear Air Jordans to convey a cool, urban lifestyle that they’re either currently living or hoping to front on others who cannot have them :

Jordans unlike some of the abstract that masquerades as upscale art pieces which gets sold for boatload at auctions.Genuine authentic Jordans are a  are a unique blend of textures, designs and pastilles that achieve pure ecstasy . Don’t believe me? Look at the energy that Tinker Hatfield puts into his creations. Who is Tinker Hatfield? Google him; I’ll wait.

In closing: Let’s not get into those same boring conversations about what people who stand in those long lines for J’s—or any other sneaker—should and could be doing with their time, interests and money. Fashion is an opportunity to live one’s truth; buying kicks at retail price is an opportunity to save money and, for the business-minded sneakerhead, an opportunity to make money. Case closed.

There’s a dark side to sneaker culture—in an attempt to get the newest kicks, some people will stop at nothing, including resorting to violence. See how victims’ families are stepping up as advocates for a shift in culture and see what measures shoe companies are taking to ensure more accountability and safety in hyped-up sneaker releases

Bape Adidas NMD On Feet

Turning  To Sneaker Addict From  Sneaker Collector

Entertainer Wale and NBA player  Carmelo Anthony concede to owning hundreds of pairs. One of the more unique hype-inducing Jordans was the ‘Banned’ Jordan 1 from 2011, which released only at outlets. Because of that, stores usually not equipped to handle rabid crowds saw scenes like the one here with sneakerheads scrambling under a gate to line up first.

Sneaker culture is a global phenomena, although the retros and colorways that pop stateside may not be as big everywhere else. Go inside Japan’s obsession with kicks and find out how it compares to the U.S.

Ball Fraternities Strides In Giving  Back To The Community

Connecting  with the  Muncie community is the aim of the Ball State Interfraternity Couincil .Ball State currently boasts about twelve  fraternities that are members within  the Interfraternity Council .All of the  membership  of those fraternities pay dues, which help make a budget. The surplus goes toward giving back to the community. The biggest goals of the council is to connect more ,not just with organizations on but on a personal level.

  • Increase diversity by pairing with the Panhellenic Association and National Pan-Hellenic Council on events.
  • Promote philanthropic awareness by donating to, promoting and attending events.
  • Promote the Greek Life and IFC brand by integrating the Muncie community and non-Greek organizations.

The Girls Basketball Team Finally Get Some Love

School Athletic Director Kim Conner is a year in her position but has been with Southside Middle School and the former Wilson Middle School for close to 18 years. During the early years,Kim remembers boys basketball teams receiving donations for shoes. But girls basketball teams  have in the past received insignificant  minorsponsorships for items such as warm-up shirts. But “nothing as big as getting tennis shoes.”

Players for Southside Middle School girls basketball teams stand with their new shoes at Monday night's practice. The shoes were donated thanks to $1,500 from Ball State's Interfraternity Council.

Conner said the  girls program has largely been ignored in the past with numbers, so we’re very excited to have this opportunity to maybe increase participation,” ,the past year , the program had only manage to field  just  12 girls players. One of the teams  finishing the season with just five players.

The current  year has about   about 24 players , with close to 17 players on the 8th and 7th grade teams.

Helping These Girls Just Focus On Basketball

Christmas  came early for the players of the seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams at Southside Middle School.

The Interfraternity Council (IFC) granted a $1,500 donation to the two programs so they could purchase team shoes for the season.

“A reward like this really helps them stay on track, staying out of trouble and getting good grades which means a lot here,” said Erik Hoglund, seventh grade girls basketball head coach.

Jaleel Pryuer, president of Delta Tau Delta and the seventh grade girls girls basketball team assistant head coach, raised the issue to the IFC.

“The girls wanted team shoes, but their athletic program did not quite  have enough money to get everyone shoes,” Pryuer said.  I reached out to IFC to see if they would be willing to donate.”

With the $1,500 donation, the programs were able to buy 17 pairs of shoes for all of the players on both teams.

Jaleel said he felt good knowing that the players didn’t have to worry about buying shoes.

“That’s one thing I never want a kid to stress about with them trying to find money or their parents trying to find money,” Pryuer said. “Just knowing that they can come to practice and focus on the task at hand and be ready for the game coming up that week is really good.”

The entire donation went toward the shoes, but Hoglund and Pryuer are planning to surprise the teams with another gift soon.

“It warmed my heart for sure. Being able to help these girls just focus on basketball really makes me happy,” Hoglund said. “It’s awesome seeing them be able to wear the same shoes to look like a team. They’re going to have a good season.”

Hoglund said that the girls were excited after telling them about the gift.

“That kind of lit a spark that day for a good practice and eventually winning our first game of the season the next day,” Hoglund said.

Alaija Douglass, a seventh grade basketball player, felt happy when she first heard about the donation.

“I was surprised we were getting shoes because we’ve never got them before,” Douglass said.

Pryuer said how Greek Life is trying to extend a helping hand outside of the university.

“Ball State Greek Life as a whole is really trying to get more involved in the Muncie

Keeping His Promise To A Young Fan-Steph Curry Shoes For Girls

Upstart Under Armour Challenging Nike Thanks To Curry

Steph Curry was drafted into  the NBA, in 2009, signing a  contract with sports apparel  bohemouth  Nike. During his  initial four years in The Association , he was a terrific player. He however suffered from really bothersome   ankle injuries .When he could play the whole basketball world  witnessed an  amazing extremely gifted  shooter with a transcendent game with an down to earth  an appealing boy next door  personality who was  ultimately destined to be an future mega star.

Curry’s contract was up for renewal in 2013 with Nike. Sensing  an  rare opportunity Under Armour, which had been selling basketball shoes for only a few years.Offered curry $4 million a year to switch to their brand . Nike, declined to match the offer and was paying him a reported $2.5 million at the time .That was a mistake  The Swoosh lived to regret  . In all fairness when  basketball shoes sales  had been somewhat  on the down trend at the time .With Curry  in the fold  Under Armour’s  sales  sky rocketed. They were up 95 percent in the fourth quarter of last year (compared with 2014’s fourth quarter) and another 64 percent in the first quarter of this year. Its footwear revenue was $678 million in 2015, up from $127 million in 2010. Although Nike dominates the business of basketball shoes, Under Armour has really announced it self to be a real player in the signature shoe game .

Thanks in  huge  part  to Curry’s enormous on court success winning the NBA Championship. Since the beginning of the year, according to Jay Sole, who follows the company for Morgan Stanley, “Curry basketball footwear has accelerated meaningfully. Curry’s name on a pair of kicks saw sales upwards $160 million in 2016 alone  .With a $500 LeBron James lifetime contract with Nike  .Curry’s signature shoes  is ahead of every other current player’s, including LBJ

Following Steph Curry Getting A 9 year Old Girl’s Letter Under Armour To Change Ways Of Selling Shoes

No automatic alt text available.

After thinking  about  the letter he received from a  girl who wanted to make his shoes available for girls:Stephen Curry said  ‘she opened my eyes’ .The  9 year old Golden State Warriors super  fan Riley Morrison, was disappointed to find that Curry’s signature shoes were  available in  boys styles only  . She wrote a letter to  Warriors superstar Stephen Curry requesting Under Armour Curry 5 sneakers  be  made available for girls also.

The multiple  NBA MVP responded when  the letter went viral over the INTERNET. He also  made a handwritten letter declaring  promising to correct the error and offered  Morrison a pair sneakers . Following  Curry’s response, the Under Armour website switched up  the children’s shoes’ online listing from “Boys” to “Grade School..Stephen Curry has advocated strongly  for women equality  in life as whole and of course in the game of  basketball  .

The father of two young girls, one of  his daughter’s is coincidently named  Riley as well.Curry recently  wrote an essay about supporting women and the need for pay equity.

As Letter Goes Viral Curry Responded To Riley

“Unfortunately we have labeled the smaller sizes as “boys” on the website. We are correcting this NOW! I want to make sure you can wear my kicks proudly so I am going to send you a pair of Curry 5s now AND you’ll be one of the first kids to get the Curry 6. Lastly, we have something special in the works for International Women’s Day , and I want you to celebrate with me! More to come on that, but plan to be in Oakland that night!”

Change Happens One Size 5 Girl’s Shoe At A Time

The NBA mega star showed that he seriously supports gender equality with action rather than lip service.

Curry has his own line of adult and kids’ basketball sneakers through Under Armour. The 9 year old  potential customer took issue with the fact that the shoes only come in boys’ sizes. She wanted to nab a pair of kicks as she also plays basketball.. Her handwritten letter to the baller expressed disappointment in the most adorable way by a child , it went viral when after  her ftaher posted it on IG (Instagram).

Image result for Riley Morrison

She wrote, “I asked my dad to buy me the new Curry 5s because I’m starting a new basketball season. My dad and I visited the Under Armour website and were disappointed to see that there were no Curry 5s for sale under the girls’ section. However, they did have them for sale under the boys’ section, even to customize. I know you support girl athletes because you have two daughters and you host an all-girls basketball camp. I hope you can work with Under Armour to change this because girls want to rock the Curry 5s too.”

All excellent points, Riley! The letter made the rounds on the internet and Curry addressed it directly and responded in turn.

In addition to working to make the Curry sneakers available to females, Curry offered Morrison one of the first pairs of the forthcoming Curry 6s when they drop, along with an invite to an International Women’s Day event

There was something so personal and powerful about the handwritten letters shared by the two parties involved  . It felt so immediate and passionate in a medium that often can often be very jaded. While the exchange was shared with social media, it was a very  genuine and commenadable act by Curry to do   .

It also reminds us that girls play hard and speak with their dollars.

The Steph Curry 5s are a cool athletic shoe. They come in many colors and styles and are customizable. They will look good on both male and female basketballers.

Clothes and shoes have no inherent gender and this conversation between Curry and Morrison reminds us of that.

Curry deserves alot of credit  for responding and making change. We as a society cannot stop  until full gender equality is achieved.

Basketball Uniform Design-New WNBA Nike Jerseys Unveiled

The History Of The Basketball Jersey

Jersey With Sleeves

At the outset  history of the sports infancy, basketball was played in any type of athletic attire one deired to wear. By the 1900s, special uniforms were developed and marketed to basketball players. The style, cut, and fit of basketball uniforms evolved throughout subsequent decades, often modeled after the general fashion trends of that era and time period.

The 1899 University of Kansas basketball team, demonstrating uniforms of sleeveless jerseys and long pants

Originally, basketball was played in any type of athletic attire, ranging from football to track and field  uniforms. The first official basketball uniforms, as of 1901 displays were in the Spalding sports catalog  , featuring  three styles  of pants: knee-length padded pants, similar to those worn for playing football, as well as shorter pants and knee-length tights. There were two types of suggested jersey, a quarter-length sleeve and a sleeveless version.

The long pants later evolved into medium-length shorts in the 1920s, and around the 1930s, the material used for jerseys changed from insane warm wool unis to the lighter nylon and polyesther .Between 1970s and 80s, uniforms became tighter-fitting and shorts were shorter, consistent with the overall fashion trends of the time . During  this time, women’s basketball womens uniforms transitioned to tank tops from long sleeves style jerseys akin  to men’s basketball uniforms, which more explicitly showed off players’ muscle tone.

Michael Jordan   in1984 itwas documented to have requested for longer shorts and helped popularize the move away from tight, short shorts toward the longer, baggier shorts worn by basketball players today. Throughout the 1990s, basketball uniforms fell under the influence of the rap music culture, with shorts becoming longer and looser-fitting, team colors brighter, and designs more flashy and suggestive of rappers’ swagger. By the 21st century, basketball uniforms became even more  loose-fitting and oversized  the arm holes in women’s basketball jerseys remained smaller than men’s, but sports bras. were revealed due to jersey wide sleeves

WBNA Jersey Evolution

The first WNBA  jerseys did not have any designer logo on them, as the Champion brand logos were typically on the into  the players shorts at the bottom of the jersey .In 1998 Reebok started to be a major sponsor of the WNBA  . Jerseys were baggy, everything was shiny and typically worn tucked in as players are to do on the colligiate level .  WNBA logo was typically  featured on both  the shorts  and jersey with the team name depicted across the chest.

Reebok Shirt Tail Out Era : 2003-2006

The shiny player unis had disappeared by 2003.  Fabric that was lighter and a little more breathable and bearable for players  were inroduced . The biggest change was how these jerseys were worn. They were no longer designed to be tucked in, if you did, well, it wouldn’t stay. Reebok designs were not as baggy and featured a more slim fitting . Teams still wore darker jerseys on the road.and white at home.

Adidas Sponsorship Begins: 2007

With the start of a 10-year agreement between the two, Adidas took over as the official outfitter for the WNBA. Jerseys were tucked back in, continued to get slimmer and featured a more dry-fit material that was more absorbent than previous uniforms.  We also started to see the beginning of the racerback cut to better fit the body of the players.

Sponsorship Era Begins: 2009- PRESENT

The Phoenix Mercury were of the first WBNA teams to have a sponsor Lifelock added to the jersey. A  smart financial move making them first team in professional American sports to do so. Shortly after, the Los Angeles Sparks  replaced the  ‘Sparks’ with Farmers Insurance on the front of the jersey. The teams had multi-year sponsorship contracts .By 2013, half of the league had major jersey sponsors. Currently  every team has some form of sponsor on its jersey. In 2016, the league became one of the first American pro leagues to eliminate the traditional home white jersey.

NIKE ERA: 2018

In 2018  Nike took over as the official outfitter for the WNBA. The  Las Vegas Aces ,Washington Mystics and the Atlanta Dream are the only teams remaining with the team name in its original place. However, a Verizon logo is placed under their numbers on the Mystics and Dreams. The Aces uniform will only feature an MGM Logo on the left shoulder, mirroring  the NBA design.

Image result for ADIDAS WNBA jerseys

The new Nike WNBA uniforms all feature the same uniform cuts similar to the previous Adidas uniforms . The uniforms also have a cleaner look than the previous Adidas designed  uniforms.

To make a uniform for the game’s top female athletes, Nike designers began by doing extensive research on and gathering feedback directly from the players. With these insights, the designers focused on the movements that are fundamental and unique to their play to improve on the following elements:

  • Fit: Women-specific scapula cuts on the jersey and vents on the shorts as well as an extensive variety of uniform lengths and short rises maximize range of motion and comfort.
  • Temperature regulation: An advanced, closed-hole mesh fabric with quick-dry back venting (the pattern and placement were determined by employing digital body maps that evaluated female athletes’ primary sweat and cling zones) helps regulate body temperature and provides optimal moisture control during play.

Seimone Augustus

To create a special look for the WNBA, Nike focused on amplifying each teams’ primary and secondary colors through a tonal application of color that moves from the front of the uniform to back, intended to create the effect of an athlete in motion. A wing-like design on the back of the jersey features sharp angles that imply power and speed.

In line with the new basketball uniform naming convention announced by Nike and the NBA last year, the WNBA introduces an Icon Edition and Statement Edition silhouette. The Icon Edition uses the team’s primary color to represent the rich heritage and iconic identity that exists within each franchise. The Statement Edition highlights the team’s secondary color and sets the tone for big games or rivalries.

Drew League Teams-Women’s Drew League Is All About Community

The Goal Of The Drew League Is To Help Young People

The Drew League Was Established By Alvin Willis

Alvin Wills  founded  the  6 team Drew League in 1973 .The platform of this league was to teach  life lessons through basketball and be a safe place for young women and men from the  South Central Los Angeles area.

The Founder

The Drew’s superstar cameos, roaring crowds, and vicious dunks that make national sports television highlight reels – none of those would exist without the early efforts of Alvin Wills. Now in his 60s, the league’s founder spent ten years overseeing the league during its infancy, setting the course for what would become a Los Angeles tradition. Back in the 1970s, while working for an inner-city community organization, Alvin turned the popular “Homeroom Basketball” program at Charles Drew Middle School into evening basketball games. Soon, talented local players and collegiate athletes from big-time programs all over Southern California began lining up to play. “That’s all we did around here,” Alvin says, describing the importance of hoops in the neighborhood. “There’s no bowling alleys, no malls, no movie theatre. So every night we’d be in the gym.” With players flocking seven days a week, Alvin founded the Drew as a six-team league that adhered to the same code that made his pickup run so popular: “It didn’t matter if you were a name guy or a no-name guy,” he explains. “Whenever you played, you had to play.” He would call the game, referee, keep score and generally do whatever it took to make sure games went smoothly. Even four decades later – with the Drew now solidified as the West Coast’s most celebrated summer league – Alvin’s legacy

The Drew League’s goal was to help young people form meaningful relationships on the court that would spill over into the neighborhood, as well as build an institution that would bring top local high school, college, and pro players back to the community.

The league had grown from the original 6 teams to 10 teams in 1985.Currently the league has up to 28 “invitation-only” teams to scap it out on the basketball court

Star Power Of The Drew League

The Charles Drew Junior High School Address: 8511 Compton Ave Years Used: 1973 — 2005 on the corner of Compton and Firestone. Was the original location has played  host to several NBA stars, collegiate athletes, and streetball legends in Southern California’s toughest competition.

WASHINGTON PARK Address: 8908 Maie Ave Years Used: 2006 — 2011

After moving up the street, the Drew League added to the legacy of Washington Park, a community hub that acts as a safe zone for neighborhood residents. The new gym had a built-in scoreboard and air-conditioning, but was usually a standing room only situation.

Current location KING DREW HIGH SCHOOL Address: 1601 E. 120th Street Years Used: 2012 — Present

Now with 28 teams and players ranging from professional superstars to playground legends, the league enjoys newer facilities and expanded space for teeming crowds. Still, lines of hopeful spectators often snake around the building.

The  Drew floor has a long list of notable players  who have graced the tournament includes:

James Harden, Byron Scott ,John Williams,Greg Anthony ,LeBron James, Micheal Cooper, Kevin Durant ,Paul Pierce , Andre Miller ,Kenny “Bad Santa” Brunner, Bobby Brown ,Jason Hart ,Trevor Ariza, Craig Smith ,Nick Young ,JaVale McGee, Brandon Jennings ,Demar Derozan ,Cuttino Mobley ,Baron Davis ,Casper Ware Jr., Paul George, Metta World Peace, John Wall JR Smith ,Mo Spillers ,Mike Brown ,Dane Suttles ,Casper Ware Sr, Brandon Bowman, Doug Thomas, Dwayne Allen ,Russell Brown,Jeff Calhoun ,Rob “Sic-wit-it” Kennedy ,Mark “Goggles” ,Neal James “Gumby” Gray ,Robert Smith ,Lamar “Black pearl” Gayle, and Kobe Bryant known as the The Black Mamba .

Home To Some Special People

Throughout the Drew League season, the Jr. Drew League, a weekly youth basketball clinic for boys and girls ages 11-12 years, is held upstairs at King Drew HS. Led by Keion Kindred and LaSandra Dixon, the clinics serve children from the South L.A. community and teach them all the fundamentals of the game from dribbling, passing, shooting and teamwork. On the day of the Drew League Championship game, there’s a showcase game for both boys and girls at LA Southwest College. The Jr. Drew League also hosted a clinic with 5-Eleven Hoops, a non-profit basketball program for individuals with Autism and special needs, in late July. Professional basketball players like Cappie Pondexter, Jordin Canada and Aaron Brooks have also been guest speakers to let participants know what kind of work it takes to make it to the highest level.

Eyleen Carlyle, was the 1st female coach in the history of The Drew League. In the Drew Summer League she  went on to win coach of the year award.

Tenesha Ware Gave The Women’s Drew League A Second Life

The Drew League is now  an institution. It has now has  big sponsors such as  Body Armor Super Drink,Monster ,Nike and Time Warner Cable. The Drew League rosters have been filled over the years with WNBA stars.

The original Women’s Drew League was started by Dino Smiley in 1987 a “longtime friend and mentor of Alvin Willis ,”who was appointed  him to the post of league director .But  the Women’s Drew League lost some steam along the way  . Tenesha Ware breathed it into a second life after it  lost some relevance . The Women’s Drew League currently  is one of the most fiercely competitive women’s basketball leagues in LA  thanks to Tenesha Ware.

In a society that is marked by division. It can be hard to pinpoint areas where barriers fall and bridges grow across . But in Los Angeles, at the corner of Compton and Firestone boulevards, lines fade away in service of a singular cause: basketball. And some of the best WNBA players in the game —Chelsea GrayEssence Carson and Odyssey Sims of the LA Sparks and Noelle Quinn of the Seattle Storm — will be featured performers in a middle school gym when the Women’s Drew League Playoffs kick off on Sunday Dec 02 2018.

The Women’s Drew League includes “athletes that’s played professionally, overseas,in the WNBA or both.According to Chelsea Gray of the WNBA LA Sparks , which means the games  should make for great entertainment  for Sparks fans who saw them perform  at  the Staples Center in the past are  hoping  to see the likes of Carson, Gray and Sims rock the  hardwood floor  again.

Drew League: A Vital Community Structure

For Chelsea Gray, the do all around utility, diverse guard with the LA Sparks, loves playing  in the Women’s Drew League. Gray explained what playing in the Women’s Drew League means to her:

It’s amazing to be able to bring people out from the community to enjoy the game of basketball. Don’t get me wrong it gets really competitive. But it’s great to play against some athletes that’s played professionally, either WNBA, overseas, or both. It’s a great environment and I hope it’s around for a lot more years to come.

For humans inhabiting Earth which has been shredded by a  technological society and individualism. Community, that union among neighbors which gets cast into chaos when its inhabitants are subjected to systemic, socioeconomic disenfranchisement.

In South Central Los Angeles where the Drew League was founded and the games are played, a once-predominantly African-American community gave way to an influx of Latino residents, with both groups facing historical disenfranchisement and the ills that come with it, like gang culture and crime issues often worsened by gentrification process of renovating deteriorated urban neighborhoods by means of the influx of more affluent residents that effort to improve blighted neighborhoods that always seems to come at the expense of the community’s original inhabitants.

just as other major cities in the United States, the deepest divisions are along financial lines, with no place that this is more true than LA, where people in  residents of South Central and Beverley Hills often live in two different Americas. By fostering meaningful and  entertaining  basketball competition to South Central, the Drew League tries to do it’s part by assisting in the process to eradicate  those financial divisions by uniting players from diverse backgrounds. street ballers and college athletes have competed against some of the wealthiest athletes on the planet  that have participated in the Drew League creating a stronger  bond in the community as a whole

Bringing groups together is how a community develops pride and grows; it’s how the community’s inhabitants shatter the stereotypes heaped upon them by racism and history.

Drew League founder Alvin Wills sought only to spark an activity that would allow young people in his community to teach to the youths through the game of basketball. What it has become is nothing short of urban legend, if not a model for committed community leadership.
